Hi Kevin,
Thanks for the quick response.
I went into the first registry key location (see below) and the IRPStackSize parameter was non-existent. I created one as you said. But you never suggested a value for it. I tried setting it to 0 as defaulted.
The second NullSessionPipes parameter had several words listed in its values, so I deleted all of them as requested.
The third PagedPoolSize parameter is already set to 0.
I then restarted the notebook.
But I am still getting the same message and cannot share the CD drive. (I don't think I mentioned in my original letter that I CAN share any drive on the notebook, and access it on the desktop PC. Only the notbook PC is refusing to access the shared drives on the desktop PC.)
I then tried setting the first paramter to (5), and restarted the notebook. But I am still getting nowhere. I decided to check these resistry settings on my desktop PC, since it can access any shared
drives on the notebook. the IRPStackSize is set to (11), and the NullSessionPipes are as follows:
Desktop PC NullSessionPipes =
COMNAP
COMNODE
SQL\QUERY
SPOOLSS
LLSRPC
EPMAPPER
LOCATOR
TrkWks
TrkSvr
These exact same entires are also found in the notebook (prior to my deleting them).
If these are OK when the desktop PC is able to access shared drives, why would I need to delete them on the notebook?
The PagedPoolSize on the desktop PC is also set to zero.
I am trying the notebook again with the IRPStackSize set to (11).
Is it necessary to reboot in between registry changes and the attempt to access the shared drive? It didn't work with (11) prior to rebooting. It also did not work after rebooting.
As last resort, I re-inserted the above entries into the NullSessionPipes parameter as they are existent in the desktop PC. Still no dice.
The notebook runs PCCillin anitvirus software. I disabled it each time, but it made no difference.
The desktop does run Norton Antivirus, and works just fine with it running.
We have made no progress.
Any additional information will be appreciated. Please note that if I share an individual FOLDER on my desktop PC, I can access it just fine from the notebook. Only shared roots of drives yield the error message.

I have a LAN here at my house using a router to share broadband internet and 2 additional linksys hubs. We often have 6 or more PCs on the LAN. I have always been able to share the root of the CDROM drive on my WinXP desktop PC for accessing CD files by others.........until now. For some unknown reason, my notebook now produces the following message if it tries to access the CDROM drive shared on my desktop PC as "50X":
"\\MyPC\50X is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
Not enough server storage is available to process this command."
I have never seen this message before. This just started after I completely rebuilt my Sony VAIO notebook by installing a new HD and running Sony's System Recovery CDs on it to put it back the way it was new. I am logged in as the administrator on both PCs. They both run WinXP Home. Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks.

Resolution:
1) The registry value IRPstackSize may be not explicitly present. To increase the value of the parameter, go to the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ LanmanServer\Parameters. If the key is not present, choose Add Value in the Registry Editor. The Value Name should be IRPStackSize and the Data Type is REG_DWORD.
2) Remove any unnecessary entries from this value in the registry, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters\NullSessionPipes.
3) If the machine has a non-zero PagedPoolSize in the Registry, you need to re-set it by going to HKEY_LOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management and double-click on PagedPoolSize and set to 0.
4) Disable Norton antivirus to see if that will fix the problem.

| Answer provided by admin on 26 Sep 2008 at 04:11 AM My answer to your original question was a simple cut and paste from a google search of your error. I would think permissions on the volumes possibly. It's pretty hard to tell without rooting around on there. Perhaps re-applying any service pack. Short of that using the repair utility booting off the CD may be something to look at. I would also go use the Microsoft Knowledge Base. You can input that error message using your OS and get what I would assume would be dozens if not hundreds of hits. MS Knowledge base is always a good place to start when your stumped and since I have never seen your message that is where I would start if I were getting it as well. Good luck. |
