Operating Platforms / Microsoft Windows
One: The application DLL C:\WINDOWS\image.dll is not a valid windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette.
Two: C:\Documents and Settings/mick is not accessible. Access is denied. (FYI: mick is the name of the administrator account on the computer)
When I click on items on my desktop to open them I frequently get "Windows Explorer encountered a problem... send don't send. When I click to see what the report contains, it says:
AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2800.1106
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 02444248
I hope you can help me because I haven't a clue what any of these means or how to fix it. I have tried running Norton utilities and virus software, and spyware software with no improvement.
Thank you for any help you can provide.

| Answer provided by admin on 26 Sep 2008 at 04:11 AM This is a bit sticky. If you have already ran Norton and spyware removal the problem must be either some yet undetected virus/spyware or badly writen software conflicting with your system. First things first. XP has something called system restore. Try using that to roll back your operating system. Go to start programs then accessories and system tools. Then run system restore. You should be able to restore the system an earlier date. This may or may not work. The other option is to put the xp cd in the drive boot the computer and hit a key when is says "press a key to boot from CD" then you can install XP over itself. It should give you an option to repair the installation. Also you may want to turn system restore off and retry the spyware removal tools. System restore will sometimes put files back that you delete automatically. You can do that by right clicking my computer and going to properties. Then choose the system restore tab. Check the box to turn it off. It may take several tries to fix the problem. Try these things and let me know if you need any more idea to try. Also make sure any vital data like word documents etc are copies to floppy or cd or something. |
