I understand if this is not your expertise, but I'm not sure where or who to go to.

I was wondering if it is lawful for an employer to hire private investigator to follow outside sales force without their knowledge for purpose of evaluating their work ethic in the feild?
Thanks in advance

Anthony,

Your question really is outside of my area of knowledge.

From a practical standpoint, I can think of no reason why the conduct you describe would be illegal or improper.

Also, a Private Investigator must be licensed by the State of California, and I do not believe someone would accept an illegal assignment, since they could lose the license.

You might contact the agency that provides a license to Private Investigators to ask the question. The agency is the State Department of Consumer Affairs, and you can click the link below for more information, or to file a complaint:

Good luck to you,
