Dear Mr.Ferguson, I am trying to convert an mpegav file which will only view in a 'xing player' to a format which I can burn to disk and view as video cd. I will be grateful if you could help me. I thank you in advance.

I had a similar question the other day and I'm afraid I wasn't much help. I don't really work in VCD's/DVD's often, but I'll give you the info I have. I know there used to be alot of compatibility issues with video CD's and home DVD players. I'm not sure if they still exist since I don't really do much w/ VCD's or DVD's.

Someone told me about a web site for this called videocd.com. You may find some useful help there.

I do know that Roxio Easy CD Creator 5(or higher) has a Video CD option when burning CD's. If you can get access to that software, it may work for you.

You may just need some software that converts from MPEG to a format your DVD player will read. We use Quicktime Pro for most format conversions, tho I can't say for sure that it will do what you want. From my limited understanding of VCD's, they are tricky creatures to make work.

Sorry I'm not more help. Hopefully I've at least given you somethingyou can use. Good luck and drop me a line again if you're still struggling w/ it later and I'll see if I can pick some other guru's brain in my office for ya!
