DVD captures

I am trying to capture short clips from a DVD onto my hard drive. I can assure you that I am not doing anything illegal with them; one of my hobbies is editing (non-profit) music videos from TV shows and movies, and since I can no longer get the footage from file-sharing programs, I have to switch to DVDs from my private library. My problem is this: How would I go about capturing scenes from a DVD onto my hard drive? Do I need a specific video editing program? I have three or four programs on my computer that I can use for viewing the DVDs, but none of them allow me to do any more than capture just one frame for a screen cap or just the sound.
I don't know if I've provided you with enough information to answer my question, so if you need more information, feel free to ask me. I'm not usually this computer illiterate. :)
Thank you very much in advance for any help you can provide!

However, a workaround could be this: Use a regular desktop DVD player and connect the video OUT to the video IN on a mini-DV camcorder. Then connect the camcorder to the puter via firewire and start the capture that way. You're going from digital to analog and back to digital but at least the footage would be in the puter. |
