Here is the deal...

I have some video on VHS tapes that I want to get off the tapes and into the computer in AVI format so I can edit them with Acrobat Premiere.

I don't have a video capture port on my video card. What are my options for getting the video into the computer?

I am totally new to this so any information would be helpful at this point.

Get a Mini-DV camcorder that has video & audio in/out. Patch the VHS player into the camcorder's inputs, then connect from the camcorder to the PC via firewire. You'll have to get a firewire card for your PC but they're only about $50 or so. The video will pass thru the camcorder and out thru the firewire. If you buy the camcorder and firewire card, you'll then be able to shoot stuff in Mini-DV and drop it right inot your puter with no loss of quality. VHS just doesn't hold up quality-wise.
ALso, you don' have to go AVI format for Premiere...it will take most any video format. You may want to use QuickTime or MPEG instead. You'll have to play around with it to find the best format / codec.

Have fun!
