Biology and Geology / Botany

I have a wildflower area of 60x25yrds. They consists of cone flowers, queen anns lace, chikory (sp), spanish needle, day lillies, fleabane, shasta daisys, and a number of unknown that I am still trying to identify with the Illinois conservation book on wildflowers. To make a long story short, what should I do at the end of flowering season, cut, burn, leave alone?
Thank you for your help. Phillip M. Tuttle

Either will work, but few of us live where we can safely burn! And cut at the end of the GROWING season, not the flowering season. You could cut in the spring, too, before growth begins, and that would be preferrable because the stalks and foliage would trap snow during the winter, but in my area, at least, it tends to be too wet in the spring. In a wet fall, the cutting can be done even after the ground is frozen, if it is too wet to do it sooner.
